Estimated Monthly Savings: $25
Most of us use our own cars to travel to and from work, around town and even on family trips. As the price of gas remains high, we are all looking for ways that we can bring down those costs and add savings to our wallets. Using some or all of the following tips can help you save money at the pump.
Brand Loyalty Pays
Some gas companies offer loyalty programs that provide cash off at the pump. For example, ExxonMobil offers a program called Plenti that allows users to earn points at a variety of shopping locations like Macy’s and AT&T and then redeem them for points at the pump. Other programs similar to this are loyalty programs that gas stations have created with supermarkets. For example, in the Mid-Atlantic region of the country, Shell has teamed up with Giant supermarkets to offer .10 off per gallon at the pump for every $100 spent at the supermarket. On the West Coast, Kroger’s offers a similar partnership with Shell.
Gas Credit Cards Provide Cash Back
Most gas stations offer credit cards for use exclusively at the gas station. This is great for new drivers who need the security of a credit card in case of emergencies. These credit cards also offer incentives for their use. For example, just by using the ExxonMobil card, you will receive .06 off per gallon. They are other incentives such as signing bonuses and rewards for frequent use.
Keep a Lookout for Bargain Days
Because most people tend to fill up their tanks Friday through Monday, leaving many gas stations empty during the week. To increase traffic, many stations offer deals Tuesday through Thursday. It may be a break on the price of gas per gallon, charging less for premium fuels or lower the cost of diesel. Know when your gas station is offering these incentives and pair them up with other reward programs for maximum savings.
Saving money at the pump is essential for allowing you to spend money on other more pressing items your family needs.
