Estimated Monthly Savings: $50
Most of us travel within a few hours of our house for the holidays. It is estimated that more than 90% of us will travel by car. That means there are a lot cars on the road. Here are a few tips on how you can save money on your holiday travel by car.
- Pack Your Food. Many of us are either in a hurry to get to grandma’s house or know that there will be food waiting for us when we get there but according to statistics, most of us are more than 200 miles from our destination. This means there is a very good chance you will be stopping at a restaurant for fast food. Packing lunch and other snacks could add up to significant savings during the drive.
- Use GPS Mapping. Using free apps like WAZE provides you with the fastest routes to your destination possibly saving you hours in traffic. The time not spent sitting in traffic means that you aren’t wasting gas.
- Use Your Library. Check out books and movies from the library for the kids. This keeps them off the personal electronics and away from using your data plan.
- Find Gas Stations Off the Main Road. Gas stations placed near the interstates are usually higher. Use apps like GASBUDDYÂ to help find lower prices options when possible.
Remember plan your route before heading out for the fastest route, pack your snacks and entertainment and decide where you are going to refuel. Happy holidays and safe travels.
