Save the Children, also known as the Save the Children Fund, is a charity founded in the United Kingdom in 1919 to improve the lives of children. The charity aims to accomplish this goal through better education, health care, and economic opportunities, as well as providing emergency aid in the event of natural disasters, wars, or other conflicts. The charity was founded by Eglantyne Jebb and her sister Dorothy Buxton in response to starvation impacting children in Germany and Austria-Hungary during the Allied blockade in World War I. Today in addition to the UK-based organization, Save the Children includes 29 other national Save the Children organizations as part of the Save the Children Alliance in 120 countries around the world. Donors may choose to donate on a one-time basis to the organization or may choose to set up a monthly charitable donation. Preset amounts ranging from $15.00 per month up to $100.00 per month can be selected for monthly donations or the donor may choose to enter a custom donation amount of their own choosing as long as it meets the minimum monthly donation amount of $10.00 per month. Monthly donations will be processed at the time of signup and then every 30 days thereafter unless cancelled by the donor. Donors receive an electronic newsletter each month as part of their donation, and may or may not choose to add to their donation to cover the transaction fees for the donation rather than having the charity cover it each time. Donations do not have a minimum commitment and may be cancelled at any time desired by the donor.
