The company was founded in 2008 by Francisco Gimenez along with Cory Rosenberg and Omar and Tamim Mourad who had previously worked on PriceGrabber after PriceGrabber was purchased by Experian. In 2010 eSalon formally launched their website to sell hair color and supplies, before expanding to also sell other hair care products in 2014. eSalon creates and sells personalized hair colors to customers in the USA as well as customers in Europe and Canada.
Customers complete an initial questionnaire that asks them about their natural hair color, dye history, amount of grey hair, eye color, skin tone, and other factors as well as their desired result to create a personalized product to meet their needs. The color can be purchased on a one-time basis for $25.00, or on a subscription plan. New customers get their first kit for $10.00 with subsequent boxes sent on a schedule that is chosen by the customer during signup for $20.00 per kit. Kits contain the hair color, shampoo, and conditioner for color-treated hair, instructions, and accessories such as a stain guard, gloves, and a brush to apply the color. Other hair products are available for purchase including color enhancers, shampoos, conditioners, tools and accessories, and styling products and prices vary depending on the product purchased. Subscription kits ship automatically and are charged automatically each time on your chosen schedule but there is no minimum term.
