Archives is a genealogy research site, originally founded in 2009. In 2012 Archives.com was purchased by Ancestry.com though memberships for the two sites remain separate from each other and Ancestry memberships do not include access to Archives.com. Archives allows its users to set up family trees but is geared toward storing the information known by the user rather than offering hints and search options for finding unknown information to add to your tree. Its primary focus is on scanned historical documents, such as birth, marriage, divorce, death, and burial records for individuals. Search hints and related searches are not part of the process and Archives depends on users to manually search for documents by entering information about the individual in question. Maiden and/or married name search options for women are searchable together via the Archives system, and users may print or order hard copies of documents located as part of their searches. Archives also maintains military enlistment and veteran records databases to assist users in their family history searches. Access to the sites reported over 11.4 billion records is available starting with a free trial of 14 days for new users. After the trial, the membership will automatically convert to a paid subscription, which bills at $9.99 per month using the credit card that is provided during initial signup. Paypal is also available to users as a payment method. The monthly membership will renew monthly unless cancelled by the member but has no contract and may be cancelled at any time.
